1911

Eleftherios Venizelos submits a bill "On the establishment of a School of Political Sciences".

1915

Alexandros Pantos leaves a bequest in his will for the establishment of a School of Political Sciences. The condition is that the School bear his name.

1924

Georgios Fragoudis founded the "Educational Revival" Association with the aim of transforming it into a School of Political Sciences. He began a campaign to raise money.

1927

The President of the Republic, Admiral Kountouriotis, lays the foundation stone of the building.

1930

On November 18, Prime Minister Eleftherios Venizelos inaugurates the School of Political Sciences. Georgios Fragoudis is appointed director and 205 full-time students enroll.

1937

The School is called "Panteios Higher School of Sciences".

1939

The School is renamed "Panteios Higher School of Political Sciences & Public Servants", with the aim of educating and training civil servants.

1941

The School is recognized as equal to Universities and other Higher Education Institutions.

1951

A doctoral degree in Political Science begins to be awarded. The School acquires a university organization with a Rectorate and Senate.

1963

The course of study lasts four years. There are two departments: Political Science and Public Administration.

1967

The new wing of the School is completed. The garden is being landscaped, as well as the monument to A. Pantos.

The Department of Psychology is founded.

1989

The School is renamed "Panteion University of Political and Social Sciences". The Department of Economic & Regional Development is made autonomous.

The Department of Communication, Media & Culture is created.

1997

The Department of International & European Studies is autonomous.

The Department of Social Policy & Social Anthropology is divided into two separate departments.

Museum and Historical Archive

The Foundation includes the "George Frangoudis" Museum.

The Museum's collection consists of documents that illuminate the course of Panteion from its foundation in 1930 to the present day and constitute a valuable archive: documents concerning the foundation and inauguration of the School in 1930, the first curricula, student files from 1930 onwards, rich photographic material, administrative and other documents, books, paintings, lithographs, sculptures, medals, models, etc. Of particular interest are certain personal items of Alexandros Pantos, which have been granted on loan by the Historical and Folklore Society of Acharnes (I.L.E.A.).

The Panteion University Museum also includes its Historical Archive. The Museum is managed by a Board of Directors (BoD) which consists of five faculty members:

  • Professor Andromachi Gazi, Department of Media Communication and Culture, Director

  • Professor Lina Ventura, Department of Political Science & History

  • Professor Niki Maronitis, Department of Social Anthropology

  • Assoc. Professor Lambros Baltsiotis, Department of Political Science & History

  • Professor Yannis Skarpelos, Department of Media Communication and Culture
