Research Ethics and Ethics Committee

The University operates a Research Ethics Committee (REC) to provide a guarantee of the reliability of research projects conducted at the Institution, checking whether a research project is carried out with respect for the value of human beings, the autonomy of the persons participating, their privacy and personal data, as well as the natural and cultural environment. Furthermore, it checks the observance of the generally accepted principles of research integrity and the criteria of good scientific practice.

The Foundation's Research Advisory Board consists of five (5) full members, scientists, with expertise in research, ethics/bioethics and research ethics, and five (5) alternate members, who may also be emeritus professors. The term of office of the members of the Research Advisory Board is three years and may be renewed only once (1). The academic fields of the members of the Research Advisory Board represent, as far as possible, the academic fields of the Schools of Panteion University. At least two of the members must be persons from outside Panteion.

Each research project proposal submitted for approval by the EIDE must necessarily include the application form completed with the necessary information for the research regarding the suitability and compatibility of the research project with the applicable legislation. In this report, the scientific manager determines whether the purpose and methodology of the research project are compatible with the principles of ethics and the legislation. Also, where necessary, the applicant must include the declaration of consent that he intends to give to the participants as well as any approvals from other bodies.

The committee provides an opinion on compliance with the rules of research ethics and does not evaluate the scientific work. Any clarifications requested by the committee are the result of discussion and unanimous decision and do not concern specific rapporteurs.
