Choir

The Panteion University Choir was created in October 2014, initially as a project of the School of Communication, Media and Culture of Panteion University, by the School's Assistant Professor Chariklia Tsokani and the Maestro and Professor of Monody Yiannis Vryzakis. The aim was to create a polyphonic musical group within the university, composed of students who had no previous musical education, without auditions and no exclusion based on musical skills. The dynamics of the student-choristers and the methodical way of working, very quickly made the group a modern Mixed Choir that now represents Panteion University, performing autonomous concerts, musical tributes, as well as collaborations with other artistic or scientific entities within and outside the framework of the University

The history of the Choir includes many distinguished appearances. At Christmas 2016, it participated in the production of the original musical theater play “The Horse’s Name”, an adaptation of a short story by A. Chekhov, directed by N. Diamantis, music by M. Zaheilas and choreography by Angeliki Sigourou. The performance of the play took place at the Russian Cultural and Scientific Center. In 2017, it presented an extensive tribute to the music of the October Revolution on the occasion of its 100th anniversary. Following an invitation from political and cultural bodies, he participated in the International Conference of the University of Peloponnese on the October Revolution on October 23, 2017, as well as in the exhibition “Memory and Revolution – Contemporary Greek Artists” of the Athens School of Fine Arts, on February 12, 2018. In March 2018, he presented G. Minas’ work “Heroes Times” to the poetry of Karyotakis (Eroic Trilogy) for choir and percussion. In October 2018, inviting the Hellenic-German Choir Polyphonia of Berlin, which exclusively performs Greek repertoire, he performed a tribute to Greek music with concerts in Athens and the province, together with the invited choir. At Easter 2019, he performed G. Faure's Requiem in collaboration with distinguished soloists and collaborators (Marilena Striftombola – soprano, Demosthenis Stavrianos – baritone, orchestral ensemble Musica Raeda/D. Dimitriadis) at the Anglican Church of Athens and the Metamorphosis Conference Center. In July 2019, it performed a joint concert with the Charite Berlin University Choir at the “Aristotle” Hall of Panteion University, while at Christmas of the same year, it performed the Oratorio Messiah (Christmas portion) by GF Handel with soloists Sofia Papadimitropoulou (Soprano), Kassandra Dimopoulou (Mezzo-Soprano), Philippos Modinos (Tenor), Demosthenes Stavrianos (Baritone), and with the Sinfonietta Hellenica orchestra / G. Galanis, at the Anglican Church of Athens and the Metamorphosis Conference Center. During the restrictions due to the pandemic, the Choir continued its work within the framework of permitted activities, making a digital collaboration with the Polyphonia Berlin Choir to the music of M. Theodorakis. He also collaborated with the ERT Contemporary Music Orchestra in a radio production and recording of carols by young composers, which were presented by the Second Program and the Voice of Greece at Christmas 2020.
